What's in Your Emergency Upland Pack?

The off season was fun, but we are ramping back up for our second upland season with @GSPS_oftheFORCE!

The family is venturing WEST to South Dakota in Early November to take on pheasant country! We rented a tiny home and will be on 600+ acres of private land for a week. We will be about an hour out from civilization which means: unplug, hunt and relax but if we find ourselves in an emergency situation a 24 hour vet is over 70 miles from us. After Rey's run in with barbed wire on opening day last year we knew we had to prepare a dog first aid kit if an emergency arises.

Here is what we decided to pack:

-Saline Wound Wash: Wash out the gaping wound. We were told by our friends at Apple Lake Animal Hospital that using hydrogen peroxide on dogs is a big NO. It will actually eat away the skin that is needed for wound healing and delays the healing process.

-Butterfly Closures: We thought these would be best if you're dealing with a large open wound and need to buy time before you get to the vet.

- Allergy Relief (Benadryl): 1mg per pound of dog will mellow them if they are under stress (i.e. gaping wound)

- Gauze, Patches, Tape: Once we washed out Rey's barbed wire holes we had to wrap her up to prevent anything form dirtying it and from her licking her wounds.

- Laminated note card with closest 24 hour emergency vet information including phone number, address and rough directions incase we have zero cell service.
